Motivation and Habit Change Hypnotherapy London

For when we feel stuck, flat, directionless, or disconnected from our own momentum.

What if part of me wants change, but another part keeps stopping it?

Loss of motivation is not simply laziness or lack of discipline. Instead, it normally comes from feelings of hopelessness or exhaustion. Everybody naturally wants to have a good life and enjoy it at some level or another, however, getting all the “ducks on a roll” to make that happen can be really hard. In fact, it is hard.

Nietzche, the philosopher, once said “The one who has a purpose can bear almost any how”. But what if I cannot find a purpose?

There are so many things that can kill our strengh. Repeated failure, trauma, and stress are just a few of these things. As our brains have evolved for survival, not happiness, it can err in the side of caution: and that can mean a desire to hide, or stop trying.

Luckily, our field of modern psychology understands many of the mind’s strategies and how to approach them. We have a range of evidence-based tools, from Cognitive-Behavioural therapy to Internal Family Systems (a type of Parts therapy) and hypnosis that can help us move beyond the “stuckness”.

You may not arrive with the words “I need hypnotherapy for motivation.” You may simply know that you have lost contact with energy, meaning, or follow-through.

Sometimes part of a person wants change while another part seems to block it. In that situation, more pressure is not usually the answer. Instead, we work to identify the conflict and discover creative solutions. This is not through affirmations, rather, this is through understading and accepting the limits of reality so that we can find a realistic path to finding that part that has the energy to navigate through the storm.

When stuckness is not simple procrastination

Feeling stuck can take many forms. You may know something needs to change and still feel unable to change. You know smoking is carcinogenic. You know you’d feel better fitter. You understand there is work to be done. Yet, you may feel flat, disconnected, or curiously absent from your own life. You may start things and then lose momentum, or feel torn between desire and inhibition.

This is less about discipline and more about inner conflict, depletion, uncertainty, or fear.

What may be going on underneath

Sometimes motivation fades because a person is exhausted. Sometimes it fades because the next step carries risk: disappointment, judgement, failure, visibility, or the loss of identity. Sometimes the surface problem is lack of direction, while the deeper problem is that one part of the self wants change and another part is resisting it.

Understanding that tension in more useful than trying to override it.

How hypnotherapy may help

Hypnotherapy may support this kind of work by creating a calmer internal space in which confusion, resistance, and desire can be explored more honestly. The aim is not to install fake motivation. It is to help reduce inner conflict and reconnect you with a clearer sense of movement and direction.

This may be useful if you feel

  • stuck in a life transition
  • flat or disconnected from purpose
  • unable to sustain momentum
  • divided about the change you say you want
  • tired of self-criticism that does not actually help
